Amblygonite is found in many colours from white, pink, green, blue, golden yellow and, more rarely, colourless. Large, transparent to translucent crystals may occur, but, as amblygonite is comparatively soft, they’re cut solely for collectors. Amblygonite is also found as cleavable or compact masses.
Amblygonite is found in pegmatites. Brazil is the source of most gem-quality material, but it is also found in the United States. A pale mauve variety occurs in Namibia.
Amblygonite may be wrongly identified as Brazilianite and Scapolite.
